Evelean (Roberts) Owens

Evelean Roberts Owens was born on November 27, 1941 in Cool Springs, SC.  She is the daughter of the late Reverend Sylvester Roberts and Dottie L. Johnson and stepmother Myrtie Bellamy. 

Evelean graduated from Whittemore High School in 1960 and attended Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, NC.  Evelean majored in Elementary Education and used her passion to teach at the family nursery and with the Horry County School system. Evelean’s love for children continued as a Foster Care parent for numerous children until 2018.

Evelean was raised in the church and accepted Jesus Christ at a young age.  She was an active member at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang with the R.J. Daniels choir.  Evelean had a love for music and played the piano for Friendship Missionary Baptist Church (Conway, SC), Jerusalem Baptist Church (Bucksport, SC) and St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church (Cool Springs, SC). Her hobbies included bowling, sewing and pottery.

Evelean was previously married to Roy C. (Mary) Owens.  From this union, there were three children:  Clifayetta (Glennie) Floyd of Conway, SC, Clementine (Harold - Deceased) McConnell of Goldsboro, NC and Elton L. (Lisa) Owens of Upper Marlboro, MD.  There are three grandchildren:  Terell J. Owens of Loris, SC, Anastasia K. Owens of Upper Marlboro, MD and Olivia C. (Marcus) Thomas of Charlotte, NC.  She has nine brothers and sisters:  Lillie M.  (Ellis) Howard of Bayboro, SC,  Sylvenia (Dupree  - Deceased) of Cool Springs, SC, Elder Willie J. (Pauline) Roberts of Farrell, PA, Rev. Richard (Carolyn - Deceased) Roberts of Farrell, PA and Doris (Albert) Woods of Reading, PA.  Evelean was preceded in death by four brothers:  Howard, Paul, Frank and Charlie Roberts; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving and caring relatives and friends.

  Due to the Corona Virus, the family will not be receiving friends at the home, only at the viewing at  Latimers Funeral Home Saturday June 27, 2020  3-7PM. The Funeral will be held at Silver Star Cemetery Sunday 11AM June 28, 2020 in Bayboro, SC. Please see detail Corona Virus Protocol below.
