Gladys Thomas-Strother Obituary

Gladys Loretta Thomas-Strother

Gladys Loretta Thomas-Strother, 75, passed away peacefully at her home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Saturday, March 7, 2026. She was born in Washington, D.C., on July 3, 1950, to the late John and Maxine Thomas. Gladys was defined by her generous heart and vibrant spirit. She took immense pride in her roles as a wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, leaving a legacy of love and warmth with everyone she met.

Gladys was a dedicated member of her community and active in numerous organizations. She was a Platinum Life member of the Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc., Mu Omicron Chapter; a member of the Arlington Chapter #173 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation, State of Virginia, in which she served as the Worthy Matron during the 2005-2006 calendar year; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary VA Unit 0194; and also a member of the Bible Study Fellowship group (BSF) of Myrtle Beach.

Gladys’s passion for painting led her to volunteer at the Art Museum of Myrtle Beach. She took great joy in competing in her bowling league with her husband, Harry. Gladys also enjoyed traveling the world, from hiking in the Swiss Alps to exploring the beaches of Australia and was always looking for her next adventure. Above all, Gladys treasured every moment spent with her family and friends, whether hosting lively Sunday dinners or sharing laughter during holiday gatherings.

Gladys is reunited in peace with her mother, father, and beloved son, Brandon. Her memory will be forever cherished by her husband, Harry; her daughter, Bridget (Warren); and her grandson, Tyler. She also leaves behind her sisters, Wendy (Elmore), Joyce (John), and Joan (Eric), along with a host of family and friends; and not to be forgotten, her adored pups, Luna and Nova, and grand dog, Krosby. Her presence will be missed, yet her legacy will continue to be remembered by those whose lives she touched.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Salvation Baptist Church, 1961 North Culpeper Street, Arlington, Va. 22207.
