Gwendolyn Manigo Obituary

Gwendolyn Vernell Manigo affectionately known as “Gwen” heard the voice of God calling her on July 19, 2021, and she answered peacefully, quietly, and without hesitation or fear. Having been taught the importance of having Christ in her life, Gwen professed her faith in God as her Lord and Savior at an early age at her under both the watchful eye and tutelage of her father’s ministry at The House of Prayer of Prayer Church of God in Christ Jesus. Born on February 22, 1950, in Conway, South Carolina to the late Bishop Thomas O. Manigo, Sr and Mother Vivian H. Manigo. Gwen was the third child of six children (4 boys 2 girls). Gwen received her early education in the Horry County Public School System graduating f rom Whittemore High School in 1968. Upon graduating, she decided to follow in the footsteps of her father and pursued a vocation in Barbering at Denmark Technical College (formerly known as South Carolina Area Trade School). While attending Denmark Technical College she was blessed to encounter the Brace Brothers who would later play a major role in her life. In 1974, Gwen moved to Washington, DC to create a better life for both she and her daughter; and, thusly she began her career as a BARBER at Brace’s Barber Shop. Gwen not only had a knack for being a barber, but it was something that she was passionate about. Prior to her father retiring she would spend the month of January running his barbershop to give him a much needed and well-deserved break. Gwen loved being a barber, loved her clients, and they in-turn loved her just as much. Often referring to her as “THE BOSS LADY” because she kept everyone in line. This was her career for 47 years until her passing. Gwen was an avid sports fan; and, anyone who knew her could and would tell you she was a DIE-HARD DALLAS COWBOYS fan. Whether it was win, lose, or draw she was A FAN. The highlight of her love of football grew when she and her grandson would argue back and forth with regards to their respective teams. Gwen was happy and what she loved more than anything was her family. She was both soft spoken and outspoken; and, of ten the two would occur at the same time (if you knew Gwen you knew this to be true). She was loving, caring, giving, a hard worker, and more importantly a child of God. Many people loved Gwen! She leaves us with so many memories and a lasting imprint that will carry us until the end of time. Gwen was preceded in death by her father, Bishop Thomas O. Manigo, Sr, her mother, Mother Vivian H. Manigo, and two brothers Leonard (Ronnie) and David respectively. Those who shared the joy of life will always miss and cherish her memories. Those who shared the joy of  her life will always miss and cherish her memories. She leaves to carry on her spirit: Her daughter, Sasia, and Her Grandson, Antoine, of Conway, South Carolina; Two brothers, Thomas O.
