Mrs. Hopkins was educated in the public schools of Fort Mill. She eventually
moved to Conway, SC to live with her aunt and uncle, Deacon Grant and Laura
Sparkman.
Later, she moved to New York City where she met and married the late Mr.
Jessie Hopkins. She worked in the Garment Industry until she retired and
moved back to South Carolina to care for her ailing aunt and uncle.
She was a member of the Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church where her pastor
was the Reverend James H. Cokley, DMin. Having no relatives in the area, she
adopted as her family and friends, the Latimer Family, the staff and volunteers
of the Samaritan House, Reverend Leslie H. Mclver, Sr., the Salkehatchie
Group, Sandra Graves, and George Johnson along with Edna Bellamy DeWitt.
With a heart for loving, she also adopted as her chitdren, Elizabeth Thornton,
Randolph Hudson, Edward Smith, Jr., Deacon Michael Dixon, Herman Days
and -Susan Thornas who regularly checked on her. Her favorite niece is Linda.
Murphy whom lives in New Your city with all her other nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Mary Hopkins lived at 419 Smith street, Conway, S.C. where she
continued to be very independent until her demise. Her viewing will be at Latimer's Funeral Home Sunday June 28, 2020 2:00PM to 7:00PM. The Funeral will be Monday June 29, 2020 12 PM Noon at Rose Hill Cemetery in Conway, SC. Please observe Corona Virus Protocol below. live stream will be available with the link below.
