Pricilla Robinson Spain was born May 14, 1941, in Conway, South Carolina, to the late Henry James Robinson and Cleonest Robinson Frederick. She was the eldest of four children. Scil, as she was affectionately called, accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bethel AME Church, Conway, SC. In 1965, she joined Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a devoted member and served in many capacities until her death. She enjoyed her time as a member of the Cheerileers for several years and actively involved with the pulpit aid committee over 10 years. She was educated in the Horry County School System, attending Whittemore Elementary and graduating from Whittemore High School in 1959. In 1963, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from her beloved North Carolina A&T College, Greensboro, NC. She attended homecoming every year with her college roommates until recent years, and she cherished the memories of their annual reunion. She was a dedicated and committed educator and made it her life’s work for over 35 years. In 1964, she started her teaching career at Levister Elementary school, Aynor, SC. From 1966 to 1971, she taught at Whittemore Elementary school and transitioned to the Horry County School District as coordinator for the visually inpaired in 1971. From 1981 until her retirement in 1997, she served as the only itinerant teacher for the visually impaired in the Horry County Schools. She was called to return to teaching, even after her retirement. She traveled extensively throughout the Southeast to assist with the recruitment and hiring of teachers for Horry County Schools. Community involvement was important to Scil. She served as Neighborhood Chairman for The American Cancer Society and The American Heart Association. She volunteered her time with The City of Conway Planning and Zoning Commission and was a dedicated Girl Scout Leader for several years. She was a devoted Soror of Delta Sigma Theta, serving as chapter President from 1990 to 1994. In her pastime, Scil enjoyed working in her yard and cultivating her beautiful flowers. She was a member of the Chrysanthemum Home and Garden Club.In 1965, Scil married her childhood friend, James Earl Spain whom she dearly loved, and to this union 2 children were born, Melondy and Jes. She was a loving wife and mother, but her most treasured title was “Grandma” to Brandon, Faith, and Morgan. Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Henry James Robinson, Jr. (Betty); husband, James “Earl” Spain; and nephew, Efrain M. Rosado, II. Her memories will forever be cherished by her loving son Jes Spain and daughter Melondy Moultrie (Marc); grandson, Brandon Campbell; granddaughters, Faith and Morgan Moultrie; great granddaughters, Paris and Braylen Campbell; sisters, Dianna Robinson and Mary Owens (Roy); nieces, Pricilla Hunt (Steven), Tonya Robinson (Clement), and Monique Spain; nephews, Henry Robinson, III (LaGwanda), Charles Robinson, Jonathan Robinson (Zuleika), and Johnny Parks; and an abundance of other family and friends. Scil was fortunate to have a bonus daughter, Van Gause, whom she loved dearly The Viewing will held at Latimer's Funeral Home Monday July 12, 2021 3PM to 7PM . The Graveside Funeral will be held at Rosehill Cemetery Tuesday July 13, 2021 2PM.
