Sam Frink Obituary

“His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter into the joy of the Lord.”        -Matthew 25:21

Samuel Harvey Frink of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was born March 20, 1944, in Lenoir County, North Carolina. A recent widower, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Juanita Vereen Frink; his parents, Professor Emmett B. Frink and Mrs. Ophelia Whitsett Frink; and a sister, Nettie Frink Ivy.

Sam was a graduate of Frink High School in La Grange, North Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry/Biology from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. He fulfilled the requirements of Officer Training School at Fort Eustis in Newport News, VA, where he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant. He also completed the Ford Dealer Development Training Program in Detroit, Michigan, which helped him to become a successful Ford dealer.

Sam accepted Christ at an early age, and at passing was a devoted member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Over the years, he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and a Brotherhood member. He made it his Christian duty to help the elderly, visit the sick, and help improve living conditions of the elderly.

Sam served his country proudly as a US Army Captain, for which he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal during his service in Korea. Later, he became a Field Zone Manager for the Lincoln/Mercury Division of Ford in Falls Church, Virginia. He retired as President/Owner of Conway Ford, Inc. and Conway Chrysler, and as a Partner at Grand Strand Nissan, where he received the SC Regional Small Business Person of the Year Award and the Ford Top Profit Dealer Award.

Sam offered his services to many civic, business, and educational organizations: Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity; Board of Trustees and Coastal Education Foundation Board at Coastal Carolina University; Past President and 2013 Man of the Year, Conway Chamber of Commerce; Waccamaw Regional Education Board; South Carolina Commission for Lawyer Conduct; Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Board; CHS Solid Gold Booster Club; American Legion Post 196; NABVETS, UNCF, and AARP; National Association of Minority Dealers; and Charter Board Member of Each One Teach One, Inc. He was a life member of the La Grange/Frink Alumni and Friends Association and an avid supporter of many other community organizations.

While Sam took pride in the accomplishments of his many successful business endeavors, and the many honors bestowed upon him, he was most devoted to God, family, and church. In the Horry County community and beyond, he worked tirelessly to assist the elderly, the sick, and disabled to help them enjoy a better quality of life. He was outgoing, never met a stranger, and was always there to offer help when needed.

Sam leaves to cherish fond memories, his sons Ivan (Joy) and Chaun (Tony); grandchildren; sister-in-law; brothers-in-law; aunts and uncles; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives; friends; and business partner, TJ Johnson.
