Mr. Thomas Powell was born June 3, 1928 in Williamsburg County, South Carolina to the late Deacon George Powell and Marcena Powell. On Thursday, July 9, 2020 he departed this life at William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Alabama.
He was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Florence Burk Powell of Pennsylvania, Dorothy Powell of Illinois and Mandi Dunn Powell of Alabama. He has three biological children: one son: Arthur Anthony (Tony) Powell of Illinois, two daughters: Willamina Jomerisa (Billie) Powell of Iowa, Glenda Melinda Powell of Iowa; three adopted children, two daughters: Cindy Jo (Syndi) Powell Ridgeway of Alabama, Pamela Powell Gerald of Conway, South Carolina, and one son: Craig Powell of Minnesota.
He attended Whittemore High School in Conway, South Carolina. At an early age he joined and served in the United States Army Air Force. He was a World War II Veteran. He attended and graduated from a Fashion Design School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He became a professional tailor. He was also employed at the Illinois State Capital in Springfield, Illinois in administration. Afterward he moved to Moline, Illinois where he owned and operated several businesses and was employed and retired at International Harvester in East Moline, Illinois, as well as, worked as an auto mechanic at his place of business.
Thomas Powell was predeceased by his wives: Florence Burk Powell, Dorothy (Morgan) Powell, Mandi Dunn Powell, his sister: Florence Powell Singleton and his brother: Arthur Ingram Powell.
He leaves to cherish his memory three biological children, three adopted children, a faithful sister-in-law: Bernice Roberts Powell, grandchildren, Extended Grand Children, extended Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
No public viewing at Funeral Home. Viewing at Graveside only Monday. A graveside service will be held Monday July 27, 2020 at 1PM at Florence National Cemetery in Florence ,SC
