Winifred Cleo Williams

Winifred Cleo Williams, 92 of Cartersville, Ga quietly and peacefully departed this earthly home on June 14, 2025, at WellStar Tranquility Hospice Care at Kennesaw Mountain, Ga.  She was born in Aynor, SC on August 6, 1932 to the late Alex and Dessie McQueen.  

Educated in the Horry County School system and a graduate of Lincoln High School in Sumter, SC.  She attended NC A&T College in Greensboro, NC and graduated from William Paterson College in Wayne, NJ.

During her early life Cleo accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined the St. Elizabeth MBC in Aynor, SC.  When she relocated to Paterson, NJ she joined Christ Temple Baptist Church where she was a member of the usher board, education committee and Pastor’s Aide. 

She taught elementary education at School #8, #13, #28 and #4.  She was a beautician at Rita Lynn’s Beauty Nest, Jessie Dixon’s Hair Salon and Christine Johnson’s salon. and a member of the Modern Beauticians Association of NJ Unit #9.  An Eastern Star member of Fidelity Chapter No. 16 OES, PHA in Paterson, NJ and Order of the Eastern Stars PHA, Chapter 173 Aynor Lodge South Carolina and National Council of Negro Women.

Cleo was predeceased by her parents, 7 brother’s Joseph Myles, Edward McQueen, Robert RB McQueen, Charles McQueen, Solomon McQueen, William Eugene McQueen, Donald McQueen: 1 Daughter , Natalie McQueen,  2 sisters, Bessie McQueen and Mary Davis.

Those left to reflect on treasure memories, two daughters, Valerie McQueen-Haywood (William Haywood, Sr.) of Cartersville, Ga and Degwanda Furtick of Aynor, SC; three grandsons, Corey McQueen, Isaiah Williams, Tyler Haywood;  three granddaughters, Taria McQueen, Santita Goode, Aniya Furtick; 7 great-grandchildren, Yuanesia  McQueen, Corey McQueen, Jr., Tamont Gartrell, Terrance Gartrell, Kieasia Goode-King, Kyrie King and Zyiere Williams; one sister-in-law, Rainey McQueen; 1 Aunt, Alma Reid; lifelong friends Bessie Carter, Jacqueline O’Neil,  and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.  

The Viewing will be held Sunday, June 22,2025 at Latimer's Funeral Home 2-6PM

The Funeral will be held Monday, June 23, 2025 1PM at St. Elizabeth MBC in 57 Church St. Aynor, SC 29511.
